I heard of this challenge through a twitter hashtag and had instantly made up my mind to do this! My TBR has majority of backlist titles that were released as far back as 2011 so this challenge can probably help me tackle those books that got hidden behind the new releases.
Now, #BeatTheBacklist was created by NovelKinght over at her blog and has certainly been good enough for her to start a challenge centered around it. I’ll give some pointers for those who haven’t heard of this yet but would love to know more:
- This is a reading challenge where only books published in or before 2017 are given a priority.
- There isn’t a set number of books you have to read and it’s completely up to the participant as to how many they want to add to their list of 2018.
- The participant doesn’t have to be a blogger. They can be anyone from a casual reader to a book hoarder with a social media handle.
- Each reader who signs up for this challenge will be allotted to a random group with other bookworms. The teams will compete against each other to get the maximum number of points, and one member of the group that does rank first in the points count will get a book of their choice! Best bit? It’s open internationally. Also, extra points can be earned by cross posting reviews on retailer sites.
As for how many books I’ll be adding to my TBR, I’m thinking of 52. No, it’s not my lucky number or anything of that sort, I just calculated that according to the number of weeks in a year. I hope I can get to at least one backlist title a week, throughout the year. I’m super excited for this and looking forward to the group I’ll be put in!
Update: I’m in the team Book Bards!
Have you signed up for this? Which group are you in? How many books have you added to your TBR if you’re up for this?
