WHAT IS PROOFREADING?
Proofreading is that final polish to your manuscript before you can send it for a query or publish it yourself. It’s the process of ‘cleaning’ the manuscript by eliminating all grammatical and punctuation errors but that’s not all that this service is about.
WHY DO I NEED A PROOFREADER?
Even if you’re a part of the esteemed grammar police, you do need a proofreader because if you’re the police, then the proofreader is your commissioner. There are only so many errors that a single pair of eyes (most of the times, they’re biased) can spot. So a second pair of eyes who is being paid to butcher the manuscript in order to pick out the mistakes can be fruitful. A proofreader is the last line of defence before your art can impress the readers, or the publishers.
WHY DO I NEED YOU AS MY PROOFREADER?
I’ve always been a language critic and I understand the importance of following the rules of a language while using it to craft a story. Many believe that breaking grammatical rules are a great way to stand out from others and they’re right if standing out as an embarrassed person is what they’re aiming for. I’m keen on spotting little typos or even some genuine mistakes when it comes to the technicalities of the language.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM YOUR PROOFREADING?
The following will be pointed out and corrected:
☛ typographical errors
☛ spelling errors
☛ dropped lines
☛ inconsistency in style or formatting
☛ misplaced punctuation
☛ wrong indents or paragraph breaks
However, the service doesn’t include the following:
☛ plagiarism checks
☛ heavy or light editing
☛ ghostwriting or rewriting
☛ critique or feedback
WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO PROOFREAD?
☛ Short stories
☛ Website content
HOW MUCH WILL YOU CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE?
I work on an hourly basis according to $30/hr with 15 pages edited every hour. The cost will be calculated based on the number of pages of the manuscript.
For example, if a manuscript has 225 pages, it will take exactly 15 hours to edit the entire story. According to the base price, 15 x $30 = $450 will be the cost of this order.
I’m flexible to authors who work on a strict budget so don’t be afraid to contact me for a custom quote. All payments are non-refundable–except for rare cases–and will be done through Paypal with half the amount being sent before the editing and remaining half once the edits are delivered.
Please bear in mind, each page of the manuscript should be of the standard manuscript format, i.e, any monospaced serif font with a size of 12 and each line to be double spaced. Understand it in more detail here.
WHAT’S YOUR TURNAROUND TIME?
I work on a schedule so slotting is done according to first come, first serve basis. Also, slots will be awarded only once the first half of the payment is done. The turnaround time depends on the number of pages and the consequent hours to devote to the manuscript. If you’re on a deadline and would like a faster turnaround, you can request so but beware of the additional charges it may cost. Contact me for more details.
I WANT YOU AS MY PROOFREADER! WHAT SHOULD I DO?
That’s great! Just fill out this form and wait for me to contact you. If you wish to discuss something first and/or clarify about my service, just send an email. [Please make sure to add ‘Proofreading’ in the subject of your mail so your email doesn’t go unnoticed.]
